Spartan Consulting, Inc. is Michigan State University's only fee-based student-run consulting firm. Spartan Consulting, Inc. was founded in 1997 and its consultants are MBA candidates in the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management. The advantage of Spartan Consulting it is array of diversity and expertise of its consultants who have cutting-edge management technology and research at their finger tips. For over a decade, Spartan Consulting, Inc. has partnered with a variety of clients, that have included Fortune 500 Companies, startup businesses, and emerging industry developers, to identify the highest-potential options, understand their most important needs, and improve their businesses.

James Ko
President
2012 Internship: VWR International LLC

James obtained his B.S. Bioengineering in 2007 from the University of California, San Diego. During his time in San Diego, he had the opportunity to lead and participate in various academic and outreach engineering projects. In 2008, he started working as an Operations Scientist at Strategic Diagnostics Inc. After working on various projects, which included process design, process reengineering, process validation, and nonconformance analysis, he developed a passion for Supply Chain and Operations Management. James spent the summer of 2011 working as an Operations Intern at VWR International LLC, where he had the opportunity to master the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and perform ISO 14001 audits. His primary deliverable included a valuation describing a $3.2M average gain, a customized implementation plan, and system documentation.

Michael E. Carmona

Michael holds a B.A. in Film and Video Studies from the University of Michigan. After graduating he started MonkeyC Productions where his company has completed a multitude of marketing projects for both large and small businesses. Deciding to come back to Michigan for his MBA was a natural next step in continuing his Marketing and International Business experience and his participation to the success of MSU has been great. He has held a board position in the MBA Marketing Association and currently holds positions in the MBA Association, Black MBA Association and Spartan Consulting. At American Express, Michael provided a specific and strategic roadmap for three company-wide channels as well as developed improvements to the current retention strategies.

Shilpa Iyer

Shilpa has nearly 5 years of experience in project management and consulting in Information Technology. Shilpa has an undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering. She developed various applications and has consulted for several manufacturing firms. While working with Parker Hannifin as a Consultant, she was responsible for entire application support and maintenance and led the transition to Product Lifecycle Management tool across all divisions at Parker Hannifin.

Justin holds his B.A. in Finance from Michigan State University and started his professional career working with Plante Moran Financial Advisors. With expertise in investment planning, estate planning, and tax efficiency for more than 90 client relationships, Justin has a knack for client service and exposure to a number of different industries and business strategies.

Joseph Sidor
MBA 2012: Finance
Joe holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in finance from the University of Michigan - Dearborn. He has a wealth of experience in multiple areas including financial services, as well as restaurant and retail services. At Citigroup-Smith Barney, he was able to help increase assets under management, analyze investment performance, and ensure client goals were aligned with their investment objectives. Working at Olga's Kitchen, he received top-tier recognition for increasing sales and controllable cash flow by focusing on inventory management, optimal scheduling, and continuous performance improvement. Joe also has experience developing and reporting forecast and performance as a financial budget analyst, and consolidating expense for $700 million of budget. His key strength is his ability to keep teams focused and determined on achieving difficult goals by being passionate and striving for excellence.

Nick Fischer, PHR

Nick obtained his B.B.A. from Western Michigan University in 2006, with a major in Human Resources. After graduating he began working at Absopure Water Company as a Human Resources Representative in their Plymouth, Michigan location. Through hard work and proven performance Nick was promoted to Regional Talent Management Generalist where he was responsible for six facilities with functions including, production, quality assurance, maintenance, sales and logistics. In his HR roles with Absopure Water Nick managed aspects including talent acquisition, employee performance, worker’s compensation and safety. After four years at Absopure, Nick began his MBA at Broad where he helped establish the MBA Human Resources Association to help further develop and strengthen the network of HR students in the MBA program.

Brandon Montes

Brandon has three years of professional consulting experience, including two and a half years at Deloitte and six months at Doeren Mayhew. Over that period he has worked on more than 40 client service engagements. His experience stretches across various industries, including but not limited to: Health Care, Automotive, Financial Services and Government Contracting. His list of clients served includes Dow Chemical, Ally Bank, Freddie Mac, Meritor, Henry Ford Health Systems, DTE Energy, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Compuware, among many others. Brandon has been engaged on external audits, business process redesign projects, system implementations, control deficiency remediation projects and SAS70 audits.
